Christina helped me beat anorexia | Type: Magazine Article |
| | Anorexia won't destroy me | Aug 2003 | by Maria, 16, Surrey
Last year I was diagnosed with anorexia, then depression. There is one thing that has given me strength, and that's Christina Aguilera's album. As stupid as it may sound, her album has helped me through some of the hardest times, and is still helping me, especially the song Beautiful.
This illness has affected my life drastically. I'm now unable to do my GCSEs. I've lost friends I thought would stand by me, and a boyfriend I believed would love me forever. I've lost who I used to be.
But thanks to the friends who stuck around, I'm finding her again. I'm not 100% better - but I'm getting there. Once I admitted to myself there was a problem, things became easier. I'm still having trouble with my eating, but I have a job and I'm making new friends. What I've gone through, and the lessons i've learned, will stay with me forever. I want to say to anybody suffering from an eating disorder: you can make it through - life will get better, it just takes time. Sat strong, and we'll get through. |
