Teenage pop sensation Christina Aguilera has been forced to cancel a trip to the UK due to illness.
The 19-year-old singer has been advised to rest for two weeks as she is suffering from both an ear infection and a "serious" bout of flu.
Aguilera, who shot to fame last year with the number one single Genie In A Bottle, was due in the UK to promote her new single I Turn To You.
The song was due to be released on 22 May, but her record company RCA says it will hold the single back until she is fit to fly.
"I'd like to reassure my fans that my illness is not too serious, but it's important for me to rest for a while and look after my health," she said.
"I am disappointed that I've had to cancel various things and I'm looking forward to getting back on my feet and visiting Europe."
She will also miss the World Music Awards in Monaco, where she had been due to perform.
Aguilera rose to fame on a US children's variety programme, The Mickey Mouse Show, before following in the footsteps of co-star Britney Spears by becoming a pop singer.
She is now resting in Miami with her family. |
