The tenth edition of The Golden Stag Festival took place in Brasov between June 24th - June 29th, 1997, in Sfatului Square - in the old city. This edition was dedicated to the honor of one of the first organizers of The Golden Stag Festival, Tudor Vornicu. The Festival's hosts were Andreea Marin, Tania Budi, and Horia Brenciu, television presenters.
The opening cocktail was offered by the mayor, Ioan Ghise, the prefect, Ioan Opris, and the manager of the festival, Dumitru Morosanu at Cetate Restaurant - a medieval restaurant built inside the city's old fortress The Italian competitor, Zack Ferguson, knocked at the fortress's gate and asked permission for his friends to enter. A soldier accompanied by waitresses dressed in medieval costumes opened the gate.
The big attraction of the festival was the Video Contest where INXS (Elegantly Wasted) and U2 (Staring at the Sun) competed for one of the prizes. However neither of them won.

In the hors-concurs shows the audience met Big Mountain, Sheryl Crow, La Bouche, Diana Ross, Romanian artists like Gheorghe Zamfir, and two of the winners of the '70s edition, Therese Steinmetz and Dan Spataru.
Meiske Shakila Serhalawan from Indonesia was awarded with The Golden Stag Trophy.
The tenth edition of The Golden Stag Festival ended on June 29, at the Aro Palace Restaurant, with a dinner party for the singers, the stars, the jury and the journalists. |
