For the past eight years, music has, well, sucked! Of course there have been some good songs, but nothing to really stand out when it comes to a generation of great music.
Pop music has become a dirty word in today’s culture, and why shouldn’t? Look at the stars of pop music; Britney Spears, Eminem, Christina Aguilera, etc.
It’s no surprise that today’s music is no longer about music; it’s all about the “singer” and I use that term loosely.
I understand that it’s good to have a variety of music. If you were a woman driving in your white Mustang with the top down, are you going to listen to Marilyn Manson and dance to his music? No, you’re going to listen to Beyonce or any other hip-hop music. But here’s the problem with music of today, there is no music.
I realized that in 1997, music strolled with a variety of whatever you wanted. You like rock music; you had Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, Fear Factory, etc. You like alternative; you had Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, and Jane’s Addiction. You liked hip-hop or rap; you had Blackstreet, Dr. Dre, Notorious B.I.G, and P. Diddy.
But what happened after that year? Rock was slipping away into nu-metal which was the combination of rap and metal. Hip-hop became pop music. And music’s message was “forget the music and the messages in the songs, focus on how good we look and how much money we make.”
Marilyn Manson in 1998 released “Mechanical Animals” and even he “sold out” to the glamorous life of Hollywood, yet he tried to continue with his shock and “freak” nature to make people’s jaws drop.
Limp Bizkit came out with its rock/rap style and was a big hit; however, the music was horrible. Fred Durst’s lyrics were about as original as George W. Bush going to war in Iraq; been there, heard that.
Hip-hop and rap goes from hard, street, and violent into pop music where rappers are now saying that they are going to kill you, yet they want you to buy their sneakers first before you die.
The band Korn has even turned itself into a joke. Jonathan Davis sings about how his life sucks and how he is so miserable; yeah, sure, it’s really hard being a multimillionaire; yep, I would be depressed too if I didn’t have to work a day for the rest of my existence too.
Eminem is even fake; he has stated that he doesn’t want to be like Vanilla Ice, where he is on teen magazines, doing photo shoots, and being on posters. He wants to bring hard rap back to the mainstream. Well, apparently he was also lying about his statement and that makes him a hypocrite.
Now is the 21st century and I was watching MTV the first time in a year. I wasn’t expecting anything special, and nothing special was what I got. For three hours straight I saw one genre of music; hip-hop and rap. I know some people think that hip-hop and rap are two different genre’s, but I don’t look at it that way.
Rap video after rap video, that’s all I saw. Where’s the rock music? Where’s the alternative? Not even pop tarts such as Britney Spears is in the game anymore. It’s rap and hip- hop.
Don’t get me wrong, I would hate to see Britney Spears make another comeback and pretend she’s Madonna again.
(By the way, Britney Spears has a tattoo on her neck that represents a piece of The Kabala, yet The Kabala prohibits Tattoos.)
The point of this is this; music as we know it, sucks and it looks as if it’s never going to be the same again. Why? Because there is no longer an alternative to anything. MTV used to show videos back to back, but when you watched the videos, you saw, rock, rap, pop, alternative. In 1997, I saw, Spice Girls, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Puff Daddy, and Smashing Pumpkins all in one segment of videos. Watch MTV now, you’ll be lucky if you get any music or any video that doesn’t have Andy Dick being, well, A Dick. Or the Osbournes being “The Osbournes”. (Pay attention to the quotation marks).
I really hope and wish that music will go back to it’s roots and let the music and lyrics speak for themselves, rather than have the singer sell the music and then contradict themselves by being hypocrites. |

| MStripped: God I hope no credible source published this, just some random ranting. Mr. Schomburg is a disillusioned consumer. He's confused because someone at a desk in a marketing firm hasnt quite yet figured out how to play to the "whine-ies" in the 18-34 market. Even Alanis doesnt do it for you anymore? The "music" you're referring to was as big a trend as the artist-driven market is today. The problem is you havent GROWN UP YET and figured out...cont'd

| MStripped: cont'd---that just because we get messages and music from individuals instead of a distilled, monotone bands that pipe out sounds on smokey stages in the AA-inspired coffee shops of your youth (or the youth of the ones who brainwashed you) doesnt mean its not worth something. Christina has been an inspiration for me. The way she came up, stayed up, and took over is something we can all learn from, and we're supposed to spit on it because she likes to play with her look?
