People in the News: Will engagement change Aguilera's tune?Feb 15, 2005
by J.D. Marshall

Today's smoldering question: Will the walk down the aisle convince Christina Aguilera to dump the vamp act?

Clue: When Mariah Carey married the head of her record label, did she suddenly spurn cleavage in favor of turtlenecks? No sireee, SpongeBob.

Christina is about to climb aboard a similar marital boat to Carey (one that, hopefully, will not spring a Titanic leak). People magazine reports that the pop tramp became engaged Saturday when her manager and guy pal, Jordan Bratman, presented her with a $114,000 diamond after popping the question in their L.A. hideaway.

Aguilera, 24, and Bratman, 26, have been dating for a Hollywood eternity -- two years. No date for the nuptials has been announced.

# Prescription drug problems continue for Matthew Perry.

The "Friends" star, who has been a rehab frequenter since 1997, was rushed to an L.A. hospital last Wednesday after experiencing a series of prescrip-caused seizures, reports World Entertainment News Network. He was released the following day.

The actor's spokeswoman explained, "His doctor wanted him in the hospital where they could observe his condition. But he's fine."

Perry played Chandler, the master of sarcastic riposte, on the ensemble show now seen in syndication, seemingly 24/7.

# Jane Fonda has been bedeviled by bulimia for more than half of her life.

The longtime film star offered encouraging words for other women and girls so afflicted when she keynoted a Girls for a Change conference Saturday at Montana State University in Bozeman. Fonda, 67, told the confab she had suffered from the disease for 35 years, reports The Associated Press.

The actress said she never felt pretty enough. As she related, "I knew intuitively that to be loved, I have to be perfect."

Fonda also offered these inspiring words: "The reason I've been excited about coming here is because I believe if we're going to solve the problems confronting the world on every level, it's going to be the girls who do it."

Fonda was a sometime resident of Big Sky Country during her high-profile marriage to Ted Turner.

# When Jude's away, Sienna plays.

The six-week engagement between Jude Law and Sienna Miller does not necessarily mean that the American-born beauty is living in a cloister, especially when Law is filming in America. London's Mirror reports on Sienna's long night's revel in London following the British film awards.

Sienna started the eve on the town with the two hunky stars of "The Motorcycle Diaries" -- Gael Garcia Bernal and Rodrigo De la Serna. In the very wee hours, the happy threesome was joined by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Sienna didn't call it a night until morning, reportedly 8:30 a.m. But then she is only 23, so she hardly has to turn in at 9:30 p.m.

In other unrelated Jude-Sienna news, the walk down the aisle for the twosome who met on the set of "Alfie" likely will not be until next year because of their hefty film work skeds.
