I WOULD NEVER DO A REALITY TV SHOW WITH MY HUSBAND
As she makes her pop comeback, we sit the singer down for a good old girlie gossip.
Christina Aguilera has come a heck of a long way since she burst onto the pop scene as a bottle-blonde teenager in 1998. Not only is she all grown up now, but Christina, 25, also bagged herself a husband last year - in the shape of music executive Jordan Bratman. But one thing hasn't changed. The singer's Dirrty image is as raunchy as ever, and she's still more than happy to flaunt her body in barely there outfits. And after taking a well-deserved break, the singer has just released her eagerly awaited new double album, Back To Basics. When Hot Stars meets Christina, she's more than happy to open up about married life, her long-running feud with Britney Spears and her passion for fast food...
Hi, Christina. So how is married life treating you? I'm in the happiest place that I've ever been. I've never been so in love, so happy, or felt so alive.'
Was it love at first sight for the two of you then? 'No, it wasn't! But once we started to get to know each other, I just couldn't be without him. Actually, it's very interesting, because we had really hesitant feelings towards even liking each other at first. So us ending up getting married is a very funny end to the story.
So tell us something we don't know about him... My husband's way smarter than the people I dated before, that's for sure.
What was your wedding day like? It was one of the best days of my life. It was a day of growth for me, it was spiritual and very beautiful. And that's another reason why I choose to keep my private life secret and not exploit it in any way. That's why I would never do anything like a reality TV show with my husband!
Jordan thanked his parents in his speech for his large, er, manhood! Is his claim true? That's the truth. He makes me very happy! [laughs]
Very saucy! What's the secret to a good marriage? I think that part of having a great marriage is believing in your partner. Having a very balanced relationship, which we do, is important, too. Also, I think it's about not living in a dream world, or having all these unrealistic expectations.
Dos he mind when you appear semi-naked in videos and photo shoots? Well, that's the great thing about my husband. He's so secure within himself that he would never, ever even be concerned with that. He's always saying to me that he thinks it's great what I do artistically, and he's happy to let everyone see. He's the man I come home to every night!
He never gets jealous? He's right behind me, supporting every pelvic thrust! Sometimes he'll even say to me: Why are you covering up? You're sexy, show it off!
Is it true that you've got rid of all your piercings? Yeah, I've just got these two, right here, in my ears, now. Why did I do it? I just moved on. I'm in a different place in my life, a different time now. I felt it was important and freeing for me to get them done back then, now it's important and freeing to get rid of them. So I did just that.
Fair enough. And now you're settled, would you like lots of babies? Yeah, I do - eventually. I really can't wait for that time in our lives. When we do have kids, Jordan is going to be a wonderful father because he's already great with children.
What do you think of Britney Spears being such a young mum? I actually think it's great what she's doing - she's in a very different time in her life right now. I make no judgements about it. It's a very beautiful time in a woman's life to have children and to be a mother.
But you don't get on these days, though? [Britney allegedly called Christina a ''dark'' person last year, while Christina branded Britney's wedding ''cheap''] A lot of people compared us because we were the same age, out there in the same market, but that's all moved on now. What she does is nobody's business but her own. And the same goes for me.
How about her old flame Justin Timberlake - are you still friends with him? Yeah, he's a great guy and we always have a lot of fun together because we're good friends.
Would you ever tour with Justin again? There are no talks of touring together, like last time. That tour - co-headlining Stripped and Justified - was great, though. I really enjoyed it! It's interesting that Justin's coming out with an album the same time as me again. It's almost like it was planned!
We also heard that you have a long-running feud with Mariah Carey. Is that true? No, there's nothing to that. I've already released a quote saying I have nothing all the respect in the world for her. That's what it is.
She has a real diva reputation. Do you ever wake up in the morning and feel like being one? No, I feel tired - that's how I feel! And I wouldn't necessarily use that word. I think a diva represents a woman who knows what she wants - I definitely know that!
So no mad demands for white lilies and only blue M&Ms, then? People talk so much bullsh*t about me being a diva. But honestly, I am a normal girl. Don't laugh, I really am!
Let's talk about music. Is it good to be back on the scene? Yeah, I'm so pleased to give birth to this record - after the year and a half of hard labour that went into making it!
Did you always want to be a singer? I've been singing and performing ever since I was in diapers. I mean from laying on a towel on the floor in bathroom and using the shampoo bottle as a microphone!
Did you ever think about doing something else? No, I really can't picture myself doing anything else besides what I am doing now. Although I did want to work the drive-thru window at a fast-food restaurant. I thought it would be a cool thing to do.
You're looking slimmer than ever for your big comeback. Have you been dieting - or do you just tend to watch what you eat? Well, I will say that I've just entered the world of realizing you can't eat everything you want all of the time!
So, do you have any vices when it comes to food? Fast-food places. I go to Wendy's and McDonald's - I love cheeseburgers, chicken fingers and greasy fries. For me, on the road, it's comfort food. I'm a total meat-and-potatoes girl. And before I perform, I have an enormous chicken and bacon sandwich.
Well, it doesn't show! Are you very confident about your body? There are always so many stereotypes that we're all subjected to about how we're supposed to look and how we're supposed to be. I think the important thing is just learning to love yourself, and learning to be comfortable with that. I sang about that in my song, Beautiful - that no matter what people say, or no matter what people think, it's our imperfections that make us unique, individual and special.
Apparently your granny doesn't approve of your raunchy look, though? My grandmother will say anything - she told the press I dress like a hooker!
But you've no plans to change your raunchy image, obviously... Being sexual is a huge part of my artistry and of who I am as a woman. I'll stick to my guns and keep pushing the envelope - no matter what people say. |
