| | Ed socks it to 2001's pop stars | Dec 30, 2001 |
Summary:
As for predictions, Ed's got one beauty.
"I think Christina (Aguilera) is releasing a new album, which is more bluesy and towards the strength in her voice, and I think she'll have a longer career than Britney. She's going to burn out because she's no Madonna. She's such a phoney -- acting like a tramp and telling people she's a virgin. Go piss in my ear and tell me it's raining."

Ed the Sock has seen the best and the worst.
Now, the snarky, cigar-chomping MuchMusic VJ is weighing in with his video picks of 2001.
Ed's favourite videos of the year: Treble Charger's "American Psycho," Sum 41's "Fat Lip," Bif Naked's "I Love Myself Today," Willa Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad." Ed's least favourite? Mariah Carey's "Loverboy," for starters.
Ed's Monday VJ gig at MuchMusic is safe, even though he regularly skewers pop stars with his acerbic wit and raunchy double entendres.
Then again, he receives his own skewering from angry Backstreet and Carey fans. But he also has his share of high-profile supporters, such as Tommy Mottola, the president of Sony Music in the U.S.
"When we smashed or trashed 'Loverboy,' we stopped it midway because I couldn't take it anymore and just lambasted her," Ed tells the Edmonton Journal. "Tommy Mottola called and asked for a copy of the tape because he said it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen."
Mottola is Carey's ex-husband.
Ed also has pointed things to say about Britney Spears' orgyfest, "I'm a Slave 4 U."
"She just miscalculated that attempt to grow out of her teen-pop audience," barks Ed. "The audience she's trying to grow into isn't interested and the people she's trying to leave behind feel violated from having bought that whole virgin crap."
Another candidate: Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World."
"Somebody ought to tap him on the shoulder and tell him the '80s are over because that video is rooted in everything he did before. If he really wanted to make a comeback, considering everyone thinks he's a freak, he should have some humour or self-mocking in the video," grouses Ed.
"But to come back, strutting around like a peacock, pretending that he's some heterosexual icon is really what swept the rug out from under him.
"And he's scary to look at."
