The Winter Olympics came to an end on February 24, with a star-studded closing ceremony that included performances from *NSYNC, Bon Jovi, Charlotte Church, Christina Aguilera, Moby, Gloria Estefan and American rockers Kiss.
Tickets for the ceremony in Salt Lake City changed hands for as much as $1,000 each, all for the pleasure of seeing *NSYNC perform the American national anthem, Charlotte Church perform a duet with young American operatic star Josh Groban and Bon Jovi thrash out their hit single "It's My Life" accompanied by a huge fireworks display.
Organisers said they hoped the ceremony reflected a feeling of unity in the athletes and performers alike in light of the terrorist attacks in America on September 11. The opening ceremony was a much more formal affair, featuring performances by Sting and LeAnn Rimes. The next Winter Olympics will take place in Turin, Italy in 2006. |
