Amphitheater traffic plan to be aired

Traffic engineers charged with eliminating pre-concert backups on highways and roads leading to The Amphitheater at Clark County will present their plans at an open house Thursday evening in Vancouver.

The state Department of Transportation and the Clark County public works department are working on a plan to keep Interstate 5, state Highway 500 and county roads free of congestion as thousands drive to the amphitheater.

The planners will answer questions and take comments at the open house, transportation department spokeswoman Amy Echols said.

The amphitheater's second season opens May 16 with a Christina Aguilera concert. Traffic congestion plagued the amphitheater's first season.

Also at the open house, citizens can learn about a separate proposal by the amphitheater's operator, Quincunx, to empty parking lots after concerts more quickly.

The open house will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Alki Middle School, 1800 N.W. Bliss Road. Visitors can stop by any time to view maps and exhibits and ask questions.
