Summary:

Girl-on-girl action seemed a recurring theme throughout the night. Co-presenters Sharon Stone and Christina Aguilera alluded to something naughty they shared in common but couldn't discuss. That's ripe for a "hmmm," considering the pair were inseparable all night.

Paparazzi, polish your lenses. Paris Hilton is back in town.

Draped in a skin-tight orange gown that left only slightly more to the imagination than her home video, presenter Hilton was the first to arrive on the red carpet.

For the first time in months, Hilton walked without the bodyguard her father hired to protect her in late 2003 after the scandal broke.

A new scandal was waiting to welcome The Simple Life star home. In a well-orchestrated display of damage control, Hilton was followed on the carpet by Ashlee Simpson, Jessica's kid sis who last week was accused of having stolen Hilton's man, Nick Carter.

Just as Paris and Ashlee were laughing off those "retarded" rumors, the alleged two-timer himself, Carter, popped up to plant kisses on Hilton. "We're going to Europe this summer!" Hilton chirped.

Carter was at the L.A. airport Friday night to welcome Hilton home from Australia, where she's been working for the past two months on the horror remake, House of Wax.

"I couldn't sleep all night mainly because I was making stuff for her, trying to be all romantic," Carter said. "I stayed up with my friends making her a gigantic card."

A mere hour after pledging her fidelity to Carter, Hilton's wandering lips moved on to Carmen Electra, whom Hilton presented with the Best Kiss Award for the three-way smooch Electra shared with Starsky & Hutch co-stars Owen Wilson (who accepted from Texas via satellite) and Amy Smart.

Girl-on-girl action seemed a recurring theme throughout the night. Co-presenters Sharon Stone and Christina Aguilera alluded to something naughty they shared in common but couldn't discuss. That's ripe for a "hmmm," considering the pair were inseparable all night.

Ellen DeGeneres turned out to be the woman behind the Spider-Man mask when she hammed it up with Spider-Man 2 stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. DeGeneres (Finding Nemo) lost the Best Comedic Performance Award to Jack Black (School of Rock).

Lindsay Lohan, this year's host and winner of the Breakthrough Female Award for Freaky Friday, skipped MTV's sound stage after party, opting instead to party in her trailer with friends.
