The heartbroken parents of seven-year-old Maddie Leveille have spoken of their distraught as losing their precious daughter just eight weeks after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

And now Julie 37 and Adam 32 are trying to come to terms with the loss of their "beautiful daughter" who peacefully passed away in her bedroom while holding on to her mum and dad's hands.

The couple of Blackborough End, near King's Lynn said it had been a heartbreaking time, and they were finding it difficult to accept that their loving and cheeky daughter had really gone.

Little Maddie was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April, after her family became concerned that there was something wrong with her eye, earlier in the year.

She was referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Lynn for what the family thought would be a routine check-up, but their world collapsed when they was given the terrible news that Maddie had a brain tumour.

But tragically Maddie had not even started her treatment when she suffered a stroke after she went swimming on a family holiday in Caister. Mr and Mrs Leveille and Maddie's brother Nathan 8 had taken the trip with friends.

Mrs Leveille, said: "Maddie took everything in her stride, all the scans, she never once complained. Before the stroke, she was still running about in the garden and was full of fun. We had been told she would die, but she was such a fighter, I kept thinking she is going to beat this, but eventually it beat her."

Even after being rushed to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge following her stroke, she still bravely fought against the inoperable tumour. She was allowed home after a spell in intensive care, and celebrated her seventh birthday on May 20, but sadly she died seven days later.

Mr Leveille, said: "We had taken her on holiday before she started her treatment, she had a brilliant time, but after he had been for a swim she said she did not feel well, and then just collapsed. She was rushed to hospital and then transferred to Addenbrookes."

While in Addenbrookes, her family bought her a golden retriever puppy, which she had always wanted, and although Maddie could no longer talk, Mr Leveille said her, face lit up when she saw the dog. Mrs Leveille said her daughter also loved dressing up in her wedding dress, so she had the dress made to measure for Maddie, and also took that into the hospital for her daughter to see and wear.

Eventually the family was allowed to bring Maddie home, but Mr Leveille said they knew she would be returning to the family home to die.

Mrs Leveille said: "She amazed everyone. She was so strong-willed and kept fighting the tumour.

"I'm glad she came home she loved being here, she was a homely girl. She was full of mischief a real entertainer, so lovely. She was also very artistic and loved reading especially fairy stories. She was a bubbly little girl very happy go luck."

The family decided not to tell Maddie she was dying, and the couple said she took everything in her stride, and when she could not talk any more she just accepted it and got on. She was never in any pain during her illness.

Maddie attended Middleton Primary School, her three best friends were Emma and Grace Bacon and Daisy Bates.

Her favourite singer was Christina Aguilera and two of her songs 'Beautiful and Dirty' were played during the funeral service at Mintlyn Crematorium on Friday .

Mrs Leveille wanted Maddie's poem printed it read: "Fairies, fairies in my garden. Pick some flowers then they hide. Fairies, fairies, in my garden play on my slide. When I go inside."

She added: "She said, we are still trying to come to terms with it, Nathan has been a rock.

"I would just like to add that people should always enjoy the time with their children, and don't forget to tell them that you love them we told our children every day. Every day is precious, it really is."
