There's a new player in the hot local nightlife scene, and its name is Xes. That's sex spelled backward, pronounced "excess," and the club features both in abundance, from the scantily clad go-go dancers writhing on poles to the expensive bottles of champagne that are the club's biggest seller.

Diddy" Combs, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, Jack Osbourne, Jared Leto, Alicia Keys, Matthew Perry, Christina Aguilera, Heath Ledger and Vince Vaughn have made the scene.

Xes made its debut on Valentine's Day with a bash for Maxim magazine. Formerly a nondescript salsa club, Xes is the brainchild of owner brothers Omar and Mark Moss. (Matt Stone also is a co-owner.)

"We wanted to create the vibe of a strip club without the nudity, a place where women would feel comfortable, too," Mark Moss says. "Sometimes they feel so comfortable, they get up on the tables and dance. We want everyone to have a good time."

The club caters to an A-list clientele with cushy, large booths that offer bottle service. The most popular drink: Roederer Cristal champagne, at $500-$600 a pop, depending on the vintage. Other patrons imbibe the ever-popular club drink Red Bull and vodka.

It's a place where you don't have to get dressed up, but you do have to pass muster of the beefy bouncers who keep a close eye on the line outside — and the action within.

As if things weren't hot enough with dancers grooving on four poles in the main room, the owners warmed things up by using a red decor for walls, curtains and lights.

About the club: Xes, 1716 N. Cahuenga Blvd., 323-461-8191
