Summary:
SEEING RED: Method Man is angry with Fox for de-ghettoizing his new sitcom, Method & Red. "This is frustrating for me, and it's not turning out for me as expected," he tells the Los Angeles Times. "I'm trying to keep this show ghetto, and there's a way for it to be both ghetto and intelligent. But it's not going that way." To appease the rapper-turned-actor, rumor has it the network is wooing Christina Aguilera to guest star. |
BALL BUSTER: Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg experienced some serious dodgeball trauma over the weekend as the duo's airport-based love story, The Terminal, got thwacked from behind by Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. The Ben Stiller-Vince Vaughn farce debuted at No. 1 with $30 million, grounding The Terminal at No. 2 with $18.7 million. And with just $6.8 million, Jackie Chan's Around the World in 80 Days got stuck in traffic at No. 9.
MEGA MINUTES: More than 15 million people caught 60 Minutes' exclusive interview with president-turned-author Bill Clinton last night. Viewership spiked in the second half hour, right around the time Dan Rather said "a--hole."
DOINK DOINK: Law & Order star Jesse L. Martin is thisclose to signing a new multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal with the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Come fall, Martin will get a new partner, played by Dennis Farina. Meanwhile, there's apparently no truth to the nasty rumor that Martin's much-maligned co-star, Elisabeth Rohm, will be replaced next season by a wig-wearing Snapple bottle.
MMM... CANTERBURY: Archbishop of Canterbury (and self-proclaimed Simpsons fanatic) Rowan Williams has been invited by producers to make a pit stop in Springfield. "We'd love to have him on the show," exec producer Al Jean tells Reuters. "It's a great thrill that the archbishop is such a fan." A rep for the archbishop says no formal offer has been made, but added that "It would be a very intriguing prospect."
FELONY CONVICTION, INTERRUPTED: A Los Angeles judge reduced Winona Ryder's felony shoplifting convictions to misdemeanors on Friday. The sticky-fingered thesp, who completed 480 hours of community service, paid more than $7000 in fines and attended counseling, also won a bid to serve the remainder of her three years probation unsupervised. However, the judge warned Ryder that she'd be sent back to jail if she broke the law before her probation ends in December 2005.
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP HOMEOWNER: Tyra Banks has purchased a Mediterranean-style home in Beverly Hills for roughly $3 million, the Los Angeles Times reports. In addition to four bedrooms and ocean views, the crib comes with vaulted ceilings, a spread in Jane magazine and a Sephora catalogue cover.
IN RELATED NEWS...: The Los Angeles Times also reports that Michelle Pfeiffer and überproducer David E. Kelley are planning to put their Brentwood compound on the market at $49 million. Opting for a lifestyle change, the couple are moving to a ranch they bought in California's "horse country." Their new neighbors include Seabiscuit, Mr. Ed and Anna Nicole Smith. |
