Blonde attritionJun 22, 2004

This was supposed to be a concert season to remember, with some of the biggest, blondest acts in showbiz passing through. Dates this month by divas Britney Spears, Courtney Love, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Dido, and Jessica Simpson had turned our day planner platinum. But it seems we've been saving our allowance -- i.e., skimping on manis and pedis -- for nothing. Of the six fair-haired canaries, only two are now scheduled to perform.

Brit knee -- Tomorrow, Spears was slated to shake her ample booty at the Tweeter Center, but, oops, the overexposed boy toy sprained a knee and is on the shelf for eight to 12 weeks.

Hole in none -- Courtney Love, America's lipstick-smeared sweetheart, was supposed to stage-dive at Avalon tomorrow, but she canceled to concentrate on her mounting legal troubles in California.

Papa don't scalp -- The Material Girl's reinvented herself again, this time as a Jewish mystic named Esther. Hmm. Maybe Madonna's shows at the Worcester Centrum next week aren't sold out because her audience is getting in touch with its spiritual side.

Mickey Mouse act -- Xtina is back in blond, but the ex-Mouseketeer's voice is shot, so she canceled last week's Tweeter Center gig.

Dididn't -- As she was about to take the stage at the FleetBoston Pavilion Saturday, pop chanteuse Dido suddenly became dizzy and had to be taken to a Boston hospital. Yesterday, Dido was discharged.

She works hard for the money -- Jessica Simpson may be the least talented of the bunch, but at least Nick Lachey's better half shows up. The newlywed is at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence tonight and the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester tomorrow.
