Poor Martine McCutcheon’s had a bit of rough ride career-wise since she left EastEnders. But now the London lass has got the recognition she, er, deserves by winning the award for Transatlantic Breakthrough at last week’s MTV Movie Awards.
Martine’s gong came for her role as tea girl Natalie in Brit flick Love Actually - and she managed to win even though she was up against Samantha Morton, Kate Beckinsale and Paul Bettany in the category.
In fact, Martine, 28, wearing a Matthew Williamson dress over her jeans, seemed pretty surprised to win, saying, “I can’t believe I won this. you guys are so much fun, it’s been so brilliant here.” Martine has recently switched Hollywood agents and still hopes to be cast in another big-budget film.
And Martine wasn’t the only Brit at the ceremony in LA. Kelly Brook, 24, turned up and impressed onlookers with her ample cleavage, bursting out of a high-waisted dress, while Kate Beckinsale, 30, looking more like a Dallas reject every day, put on a brave face after being beaten by Martine.
Of course, there were a host of other awards to give away, and lots of glamorous celebs to pick them up. Lucy Liu, 35, won Best Villain for her role as O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill: Vol 1, while co-star Uma Thurman, 34, as The Bride, picked up the award for Best Female Performance.
Scarlett Johansson turned heads for all the wrong reason in an odd yellow and black ensemble – but she’s still only 19, so we’ll let her off. Also in attendance as a stunning 46-year-old Sharon Stone, who dwarfed a weeny looking Christina Aguilera, 23 (we never guessed she was quite so tiny!). Both ladies opted for glamorous sati outfits, along with Halle Berry, who looked stunning in a shimmery gold trouser suit.
The Catwoman star, 38, who was presenting an award, looked very different with long hair but every inch the megastar, while new mum Kate Hudson, 25, also opted for trousers and a low-key but elegant ensemble.
It wouldn’t be the MTV Awards without a bit of controversy, however, and we nearly got some more girl-on-girl action (after Madonna, Britney and Christina’s song at the MTV Video Awards), but Paris Hilton and Carmen Electra only managed a chaste peck on the lips.
However, there was some booty-baring antics courtesy of Eminem, who just can’t seem to keep his bum under wraps these days. Sadly, though, his peachy cheeks were blurred out for the UK broadcast. |
