They’re big, they’re bright and they’re probably coming to a venue near you.
The Wobbles were in Ashburton yesterday, amid a spectacle of children and a handful of parents.
Children were dancing to the moves while some parents were also seen getting in on the act.
Spokesperson Aaron Wobble said the response had been good from those present and the chance for the group to perform outdoors, in the Tinwald Domain, was a bonus.
“Halfway through the show we disappeared and the kids were all chanting Wobbles, Wobbles.”
Former Ashburton woman, turned Wobble member, Kelley Wobble (Young) said she even got asked for her autograph.
“The kids get that instant gratification from the show,” she said.
Ms Young has been a member of the group for two weeks and was, prior to this, a student at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art in Christchurch.
The commitment has been a fulltime one for Ms Young so far and she hoped that in the future, it could lead to greater things.
The group is currently in talks with the Disney Channel about a television show. “The response from Disney has been really, really good because they need programmes for that age range,” Aaron said.
The Wobbles is a live, interactive show that was initiated by Aaron about a year ago.
“It came about from myself watching television and doing a bit of research … there are lots of things for children under six and when they get a bit older they get into Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera but there’s nothing for those in between,” they said.
The Wobbles now have a website and a “colour-in” single – the world’s first. Those interested in hearing more from The Wobbles should take a look in the arts and entertainment page in tomorrow’s Ashburton Guardian. |
