| Album Back To Basics By Christina Aguilera - Sep 2006 | Out August 14th 5 Stars
After pop Christina ("Genie In A Bottle") and Xtina Christina ("Dirrty"), here comes Bombshell Christina. The new image is Veronica Lake, the new sound is Ella Fitzgerald via Busta Rhymes. It shouldn't work, but it does. "Slow Down Baby" and "Ain't No Other Man" are dancefloor smashes, while the burlesque, X-rated "Nasty Naughty Boy" has to be heard to be believed.... |

| Pop Diva Goes 'Back To Basics' - Sep 2006 | Of the pop princesses who charted in the earlier years of the century - Britney, Mandy and Jessica among them - only one avoided criticisms of her vocal talent. For sure, Christina Aguilera inspired her fair share of snide comments - about her sex kitten image, ego and provocative fashion sense - but no one doubted she could sing.
Early hits like 'Genie In A Bottle' showcased a strong voice, and the string of videos that followed introduced us to a beautiful young singer-dancer. But it wasn't until 2002's Stripped album and songs like 'Beautiful' and 'Fighter' that the full grandeur of her v... |

| Pipe Cleaner: Her Voice: Fantastic, Her Songs: Overdone - Sep 2006 | Back 2 Basics 3 stars out of 5 While Britney Spears procreates and confides to Matt Lauer that her music is in limbo, her onetime rival CHristina Aguilera is burdened by no such distracions or dilemmas. On her third proper album, Xtina asserts herself as the foremost striver of the teen-pop graduating class, now approaching its 10-year reunion. Her nearly two dozen new tracks, sperad over two discs, play like a dial-scanning sample of satellite radio: there's no-scrub hip hop, adult-alternative folk-blues, small-combo jazz, World War II boogie-woogie, slow jams, hot adult-contemporary weepers... |

| Christina Aguilera - Sep 2006 | 4 stars
What you need to know... This is the first album in four years from the former teen pop sensation.
First Impressions... Christina seals her transformation from Dirrty Girl to a vintage Hollywood pin-up with a sophisticated new sound. The fiesty diva returns with her modern take on the smoky jazz and soulful ditties of the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Or so the hype goes. In truth, it's more of a cocktail of sounds from contemporary R'n'B and 60s-inspired soul to the big-band sound of the swinging 40s. All in all, its a fine comeback, delivering delicious late-night jazz, heart-warming ballads... |

| Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Sep 2006 | Her willingness to get down and "dirrty" in her pop videos is well-documented but Christina Aguilera is no bimbo: she talks to Attitude about sexuality, freedom of expression, the foibles of showbusiness, and how loved up she is with her new husband.

| VMA: Highs and Lows, Ringtones and Clunkers - Sep 01, 2006 | Shakira shook her hips, Justin Timberlake showed us his "SexyBack," and unlike past years, no single artist dominated at the winner's podium.
But the evening lacked one of those notorious moments that have marked previous MTV Video Music Awards.
Madonna, Britney and Christina didn't lock lips. Eminem wasn't there to pick a fight with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
There was no Rage Against the Machine to rage against anyone.
Now that the show passes into our memories, what water-cooler moments did the 23rd edition of the show provide?
Which artists actually advanced their car... |

| Battle of Babes - Sep 01, 2006 | IT WAS a battle of the babes at the world's biggest music video awards show. Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Shakira set the MTV Video Music Awards alight in New York last night. Although the girls missed out on the top gongs, they put fire into what critics said was a lacklustre show.
Shakira belly-danced her way through Hips Don't Lie, showing off the impressive dance moves that earned her a Best Choreography award. And Christina belted out a big power ballad, working her 1920s showgirl look in a long beaded gown with her trademark red lipstick and peroxide locks.

| Standing Ovations to Christina, Beyonce, and JT for Dressing Up the MTV Awards - Sep 01, 2006 | Standing Ovations
Christina Aguilera may be single-handedly responsible for bringing Hollywood glamour to the music world.
Madonna and Gwen Stefani have dabbled in the past, but Christina has embraced the look and made it her own, as evidenced in her music, in her videos, and — looking as if she'd just stepped out of a George Hurrell photograph — in her dazzling Versace gown on the red carpet.

| I WOULD NEVER DO A REALITY TV SHOW WITH MY HUSBAND - Sep 02, 2006 | I WOULD NEVER DO A REALITY TV SHOW WITH MY HUSBAND
As she makes her pop comeback, we sit the singer down for a good old girlie gossip.
Christina Aguilera has come a heck of a long way since she burst onto the pop scene as a bottle-blonde teenager in 1998. Not only is she all grown up now, but Christina, 25, also bagged herself a husband last year - in the shape of music executive Jordan Bratman. But one thing hasn't changed. The singer's Dirrty image is as raunchy as ever, and she's still more than happy to flaunt her body in barely there outfits. And after taking a well-deserved break, the ... |

| Christina Aguilera has pipes, but two CDs' worth can be a little much - Sep 03, 2006 | Christina Aguilera - Back To Basics RCA
Christina Aguilera has been called "the best voice of our generation" by former Mouseketeer partner Justin Timberlake, and on the ambitious double album "Back to Basics," Aguilera's first release in four years, she's out to prove she's a voice of ALL generations.
As its title and the va-va-voom Rita Hayworth pinup '50s-era album art imply, "Back to Basics" eyes an old-school aesthetic by name-checking jazz and R&B greats such as Billie Holiday and Etta James, samples an old Gladys Knight and the Pips B-side ("Wind... |

| Welcome to my Bubble - Sep 04, 2006 | The new breed of pop singers loves to tell us about the burdens of stardom. Their music is better when they don't.
In the history of pop music, there is exactly one good song about celebrity: Fame, which required the combined effort of David Bowie and John Lennon to be brought into existence. Otherwise, from the Rolling Stones' Star Star to Britney Spears' Lucky, the subject has been a disaster for any artist who comes near it. It's not that people aren't interested in celebrity--Mary Hart's summerhouse is a monument to the contrary--but that the pleasures it provides are voyeuristic, defined... |

| Christina Aguilera 'Back To Basics' - Sep 05, 2006 | The title means a couple of things. One, she no longer dresses like a porn star. Two, she's reminding everyone that it was a still-pretty-impressive voice that got her here in the first place. Three, that this ridiculously long double CD is filled with highfalutin songwriting of the old school mixed with high-gloss hip-hop production. | Back To Basics - Christina Aguilera - Sep 06, 2006 | Sony/BMG Star rating: *****
Christina Aguilera keeps on moving ahead. When you see her perform live, it is the artistry of the performance that's overwhelming and with this latest double set, it's the production values that blow you away.
She knew what she wanted and she could afford to go out and get the best to help her achieve her goals.
It's difficult to give a single rating for the album though because these are two very different discs and, depending on your taste in music and probably age, the one will appeal more than the other.

| Aguilera's Double Disc Is A Guilty Pleasure - Sep 09, 2006 | Ambition is less admirable when everyone involved expects to make millions regardless of creative success. But give Christina Aguilera credit for this semi-audacious double disc. She takes some chances and, maybe more importantly, sheds the sleazed-out freak imagery of 2002's "Stripped" as surely as she previously did the squeaky clean teen-pop persona of "Genie in a Bottle."

After making her fans wait nearly four years for new music, Christina Aguilera has bounced back on the scene with her 3rd album, entitled "Back To Basics". The album proves to be worth the wait as Aguilera delivers a special 2-disk album of 22 tracks guaranteed to hold us down until the n... |

| Aguilera hit by a Vibe Brown-out - Sep 12, 2006 | Is Bobby Brown really hotter than Christina Aguilera? Vibe magazine apparently thinks so — and Aguilera's peeps are peeved.
It was disappointing enough for Aguilera — who did a big interview and photo shoot for Vibe's October cover to hype her chart-topping album "Back to Basics" — when there was a regime change at the music mag, and the new editors dumped the megawatt pop star in favor of Whitney Houston's troubled hubby.
But I hear the Aguilera camp went ballistic — with her powerful manager, Irving Azoff, sending a saber-rattling letter alleging breach of contract — when Vibe wa... |

| Going Back to Basics - Sep 14, 2006 | It's not something that happens frequently. As a matter of fact, it happens only once every 20- or 30-something years. A singer with a voice out of this world comes onto the scene and blows everyone else out of the water. For our generation, that title belongs to none other than Christina Aguilera.
Christina made her debut in 1999 with the release of her self-titled album, Christina Aguilera. At first glance, she didn't look any different than the rest of the cute, blonde, bordering on sexy in a jailbait kinda way, bubblegum pop-princesses. She fit that mold and was immediately thrown into th... |

| Who's That Curl? - Sep 15, 2006 | SHE sported a tiara... but Christina Aguilera was more like a spoiled madam than a princess when she turned up nearly an hour late to a close pal's bash - because she'd lost her hair curlers.
The 25-year-old diva - who showed up looking fab in a slinky figure-boosting frock - flew in for celebrity jeweller Stephen Webster's do at Soho's Hertford House. But was too late to give her planned speech.
And she spurned guests including Cheryl Cole, Calum Best and Sophie Anderton to spend the entire night snogging the face off hubby Jordan Bratman before heading off to the Cuckoo Club.

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man," in all its incarnations -- single release to chart-topping club remixes -- was a triple-play triumph of talent reaching its prime, melodic potency and sheer star power. | Music Review: Christina Aguilera - "Hurt" - Sep 18, 2006 | "Hurt," the second single from Christina Aguilera's already gold album Back to Basics, is one weeper of a ballad. From the slow opening to a soft piano all the way to the spine-tingling bridge, "Hurt" chronicles the pain and regret one can feel after losing someone they love. But what's great about the song is it's so much more than the standard, stock loved-and-lost ballad.
"Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face/You told me how proud you were, but I walked away/If only I knew what I knew today." I'm already welled up with tears as prolific songwriter ... |

| Back To Basics - Christina Aguilera - Sep 25, 2006 | Back To Basics by Christina Aguilera 2 CDs, 22 tracks www.christinaaguilera.com
Aguilera's second CD was called Stripped, suggesting a bare, lean sound. It was in fact an everything and the kitchen sink, bloated swamp of diva excess. Enjoyable in a certain light, but the name was misleading. Back To Basics though, that's a clear declaration of an intent to cut the fat and smoke and mirrors and go for a raw, minimal aesthetic on her third outing. Only this premise isn't even attempted- the record is just as overladen as Stripped was. 22 songs over 2 CDs doesn't really gel with the idea of simp... |
