Viral ad campaign turning headsFeb 23, 2010

Summary:

What are these videos and why are they getting so much attention on the internet?

MTV did some research last month to try and figure out who this Youtube user is and who is featured in the videos. Of all the rumors, most have stuck with the Christina Aguilera theory as the most plausible, citing her much-hyped album due later this year and the relative similarities between her and the girl in the video as evidence. MTV spoke directly with Christina's publicist and they denied any involvement and even wondered themselves where this theory began.

Viral ad campaign turning heads

Back in December, Youtube user "iamamiwhoami" uploaded a mysteriously dark, 55-second video which included an apparent live birth - or at least it looked that way. A few weeks later, the same user uploaded another video which featured a young woman covered in mud licking trees and a few owls. Fast forward with a few videos and another month, and we still have many questions.

What are these videos and why are they getting so much attention on the internet?

Both are good questions. Over the last few months, many musical artists have been thrown around as possible perpetrators, including, most notably, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, and Goldfrapp. MGMT and NIN have also been mentioned as possible culprits as well.

This apparent viral marketing scheme is probably advertising for a new album, and it has been very successful thus far in creating questions rather than answering them.

Lykke Li is the most recent person of interest in this ongoing saga.

Make sure to bookmark this Youtube user's page and keep up to date on the latest videos. I'm guessing that there will be a few more videos before the source is revealed.
