Christina Aguilera makes a comeback on American IdolMay 27, 2010

Pop sensation Christina Aguilera made a wonderful comeback on last night’s finale of American Idol.

We all remember the powerful voice of the young and innocent Christina Aguilera of the late 90s, with her early hits “Genie in a Bottle” and “What a Girl Wants.” And a few years later, how her transition to an edgy, more provocative ‘Xtina’ was a bit shocking after the release of her new album “Stripped.”

Despite the changes in her image, however, her voice continued to shine and her songs remained popular. She had several hits following that album, such as “Ain’t No Other Man” and “Hurt,” but it seemed that years later she slowly faded away.

After taking a few years off to raise her son, Max Liron Bratmon (born in 2008), Aguilera proved last night on Idol that she’s still got what it takes. After this season’s female contestants—Lacey Brown, Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox—performed her songs “Beautiful” and “Fighter,” Aguilera herself appeared at the top of a white staircase, finishing off “Fighter” with the rest of the women.

Once the song concluded, the stage became completely dark, with only a spotlight on Aguilera. Dressed in a tight, dazzling black outfit, she sang “You Lost Me,” from her soon to be released Bionic album. The lyrics and string and piano accompaniment were somber and bluesy, while her voice was magnificent and emotional, reminding viewers of her strong talent that is here to return. During her solo, Aguilera stretched the notes and allowed her voice to increase, but she didn’t overdo it. And at the end of “You Lost Me,” the Idol audience cheered with a standing ovation.

Fans expressed their excitement on Twitter, with statuses like “I can’t stop listening to Christina’s performance,” and “her performance was just incredible.”

Christina Aguilera releases her newest album “Bionic” on June 8, 2010. And lucky for us, her Bionic Tour is making a stop here in San Diego! On Sunday, August 15th, Aguilera is performing at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater. So if you’re a big Christina fan, be sure to get your tickets before they sell out.

After a long hiatus, we’re happy that Christina Aguilera is back and that–as MTV News puts it–she’s still “got the goods to go up against anyone.”
