| | Christina Aguilera Bullied: Jealousy, Resentment From Early Success | Aug 15, 2011 |
While Christina Aguilera was making it big, she had to put up with two years of abuse and jealousy in school from bullies. Kids would ambush her at concerts and slash the tires on her mom's car to stop her from getting to performances.
In a documentary in 2010, Aguilera revealed, "There was a lot of resentment and I think there was a bit of jealousy involved... There were threats that were made on me and my mom. They would thrash my tires if I would win a certain competition... I just remember (thinking), 'I gotta get out of here, I gotta go make my dream out there."
Her mom Shelly recalled that before Aguilera would perform, her family and friends would have to watch the equipment because students would try to turn her microphone off or embarrass her in someway.
Aguilera had to go to therapy in sixth grade because she was having nightmares about her bullying. Her mother described her child's life at school as "crazy." |
