A lawsuit singer that Christina Aguilera launched against her manager Steven Kurtz is filled with lies and is aimed at cheating him out of his due compensation, Kurtz said in a statement.
The Inside.com website says Kurtz's statement claims Aguilera may be under the influence of outside interests who have convinced her to abandon the manager, who has guided the singer to the top of the charts with sales of more than 10 million albums.
"What is most disturbing is that, after having spent more than three years together and having achieved incredible artistic and financial success, rather than seeking to amicably and gracefully end our working relationship,
Christina has asserted false, defamatory allegations against me and others who have steadfastly protected her best interests,'' Inside.com quotes Kurtz's statement.
"This litigation appears to be nothing other than a transparent and misguided attempt by Christina to avoid her financial and contractual obligations to me."
In her lawsuit, Aguilera claimed that her agreement with Kurtz entitled him to 20% of her income, up to $4,000 per week. She alleges that Kurtz took more than that alloted share after he brought in support staff -- including his father -- to help manage her career.
Inside.com said Kurtz's statement urged Aguilera to use her "intelligence and independent mind" to "question the motives of those persons who have encouraged her to pursue this baseless litigation and isolated her from those who have contributed to her success."
He added that if Aguilera pushes on with the suit, he will counter with legal action of his own "to seek redress for any damage to my professional reputation."
Aguilera's lawyer, Daniel Petrocelli, dismissively referred to Kurtz as her "ex-manager" and told Inside.com "it's not about Christina's conduct, but his own conduct." |
