Summary:

Christina Aguilera has been in and out of the mix for a while. Her last single off of her debut album was "Come On Over," which was playing in the spring of 2001. She came back as part of Moulin Rouge's soundtrack hit "Lady Marmalade,“ but other than that, Christina has been working on her new album. She’s in the tabloids for either relation with her ex boyfriend, or she’s paired up with Justin Timberlake in his newfound singleness. I think Christina can pull off the bad girl image she wants to portray in her next album, as long as she doesn't start whispering French ...

The late 90's were full of teenage girls "singing" their hearts out in music videos on TRL. Guys would flock to the studio whenever any of the girls were on, just for one glimpse, or maybe even to touch one of them. Some have gone on to have contracts as spokespersons for various companies such as Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Neutrogena, RedKen, and other well known companies. Some of these girls have made huge impressions upon the world, but not always good ones.

Madonna made a huge comeback in the late 90's and has shown that women over the age of 40 can still be sexy, or should I say, make guys really horny. She may be a pop icon, but her risque lifestyle his been under constant scrutiny by the press, though, who’s haven’t? Her revealing outfits, the cones back in the 80's, have made her well loved with guys, and women look up to her as a sign of independence. If this is what independence is like, I'll live a sheltered life.

She’s in the tabloids for either relation with her ex boyfriend, or she’s paired up with Justin Timberlake in his newfound singleness. I think Christina can pull off the bad girl image she wants to portray in her next album, as long as she doesn't start whispering French nothings into men's ears to get a bit of the “marmalade.”

In the fall of 1998, Britney Spears hit the scene with "Hit Me Baby One More Time." At first she seemed innocent, but what Catholic girl wears their uniform like that? Then rumors about her having implants started to come up out of the woodwork. I thought it was just that, a rumor, until I started watching more of her things to see what the big deal was. I noticed a change in her size. Whether it was implants or just a really padded bra, the world may never know. Her outfits seemed to show off more and more of her body, and she was wearing less and less clothing to cover it. The 2000 MTV Video Music Awards gave viewers a whole new side of Britney when she wore a flesh colored bra and thong. If I didn't hate Britney before, I certainly did that night. Sorry to all you Britney lovers, but her stripper like dance moves and attire has made my respect for this "girl" dwindle to nothing. Like she doesn't have money already, she's advertised for almost every company imaginable. As it says in "Oops... I Did It Again" Britney's not that innocent. Her lifestyle of underage clubbing, drinking (she bought several thousand British pounds of drinks when touring in England), and her sex scandals with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, are all but good examples for her young followers.

With the bad, there is also good. One good role model in the pop world is Jessica Simpson, who is soon to be Jessica Lachey when she marries boyfriend Nick Lachey of 98 degrees. She has a clean image, semi-wholesome songs, which are not all about sex like Britney and other artists, and has promised to herself to remain a virgin until married. Granted, Britney said the same thing at first, but Jessica has held true to her promise with magazine articles on her virginity as a pop star. She hasn't been heard from on the radio for a while, but give her some time with her future hubby. I'm sure she'll be back bigger than ever with the love of her life by her side.

Of today's teen singers, I place Mandy Moore as the best of them all. First, she can sing, not lip synch, and even act! She has a wholesome image and has songs about waiting for marriage. Completely not caught up in the whole sex life pop stardom could give her, Mandy wears appropriate clothing and has a wonderful personality on and off camera. Because she is young, hip, and squeaky clean in her behavior, she gets more of my respect than any of the other artists. She shows girls it's OK to be a virgin, even with the media’s pressure of sex.
