THE MTV Europe Music Awards are to be held in the world's largest Big Top.

The high-tech New Galaxy structure, made by Dutch firm De Boer, has been chosen to house the lavish ceremony which takes place in Edinburgh, on November 6.

It is as big as a football field, measuring 107 metres by 60 metres, and previously accommodated the G8 summit in Bohn, Germany.

It has enough space to receive up to 10,000 guests in luxury and is coming to the UK for the first time.

But it is noordinary tent. The material and shape of the structure ensure optimum acoustics.

To keep the structure taut under all weather conditions, a staggering eight kilometres of steel wire are incorporated into its roof.

De Boer have also been hired to provide artists' dressing rooms, dancers' accommodation, VIP catering facilities, a media centre, reception areas and walkways covering a further 16,500 square metres.

They have just four weeks to complete the build in time for rehearsals, with a scaffoldinggrid used for many of the individual structures.

De Boer sales manager Richard Treml said: ``The Galaxy has proved its versatility at events across Europe, from the Lowlands Festival in Holland to a dressage competition in Austria. We are really excited to be able to show UK audiences the full potential of this world-renowned structure.''

The company are tackling the assignment in co-operation with Scotland-based Opus Exhibitions.

Pop's Christina Aguilera is set to host the awards, while international stars such as Beyonc Knowles, Kylie Minogue and Travis will perform at the ceremony, billed as Europe's biggest music event.

Dance superstars TheChemical Brothers and US favourites The Flaming Lips will also be performing.

Dozens of other A-list acts are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

MTV's managing director Michiel Bakker said: ``We are really excited about this building. The atmosphere inside it will be something else.

``People will be unaware that they are in a tent.

``There will be screens in Princes Street for people who cannot get to the show to tie in with concerts taking place in the capital's Princes Street gardens.

``We can't wait to come to Scotland. We know we are going to get a very special welcome.''

Tickets for the event will go on sale next Monday.
