'Paradise' is packed, but Beau's a no-show Oct. 4, 2003 12:00 AM
A packed crowd at the Acme Roadhouse in Tempe watched the Wednesday night finale of Fox's Paradise Hotel with six of the reality show's cast members: Alex, Amy, Andon, Kristin, Toni and Zack.
Beau, a part-time deejay for the Edge (KEDJ-FM 103.9), was nowhere to be found.
"Beau is in LA, anxiously awaiting his movie debut," said his boss, program director Nancy Stevens.
But Zack says he is willing to return to his job at Acme. He and Amy have moved in together. Kristin is back at work as a hairstylist at Moments Salon in Phoenix.
"Honestly, I don't feel that important," Kristin said Wednesday. "I'm one of a million reality people."
That didn't stop Tonya Hartranft of Tempe and Fatima Farin of Gilbert from showing up three hours early to make sure they got in.
"We wanted to see for ourselves if they were like they were on TV - or if they're actually nice people," said Farin, 44. Her verdict: "Toni is a sweetheart. I'm going to adopt her."
Makeover holdover
More Eye for all you guys?
Word is that Queer Eye for the Straight Guy is close to signing a deal to renew the hit show for a second season. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bravo may order as many as 40 episodes of the makeover smash.
There's also talk of a significant but unspecified bump in pay for Kyan Douglas, Ted Allen, Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez and Thom Filicia, who are pocketing a paltry $3,000 per episode. With the show drawing well over 2 million viewers each week, that's chump change in TV land.
Wizard of Ozzy
Yet another reason to love Johnny Depp: The star of Pirates of the Caribbean and Once Upon a Time in Mexico says he's been dying to make a biopic about the drug-addled, bat-biting metalhead turned lovable TV dad Ozzy Osbourne. The New York Post reports that Depp, who says he based his over-the-top character in Pirates on Keith Richards, does Ozzy imitations to amuse his kids.
Another little Lauer
Today show host Matt Lauer and his model missus have added to their brood.
Lauer's wife, Dutch-born Annette Roque Lauer, gave birth to a baby girl Thursday, a spokesperson for NBC said. Romy Lauer tipped the scales at 7 pounds.
The Lauers also have a 2-year-old son, Jack.
Radiohead rules
For the third straight year, Radiohead has been voted the world's best band by readers of Britain's Q magazine.
But, because the magazine's writers don't seem to like the band as much as their readers do, the group didn't attend Thursday's big ceremony, the Associated Press reports. Instead, the band sent a video message, slagging the mag for calling the group "miserable." The video ended with the line: "Radiohead aren't talking to Q."
However, Christina Aguilera had plenty to say. She was on hand to pick up her best-single award for Dirrty.
"It's about time Dirrty got some love. Thank you to Q for recognizing the woman with the (anatomical features not typically possessed by women) to make this video," the 22-year-old singer said, referring to the song's raunchy video.
The lifetime achievement award went to Duran Duran. We don't make this stuff up. |
