POP princess Christina Aguilera is keeping her fingers crossed to take out the best popular female vocalist gong at international music's night of nights - the Grammys.
Aguilera, who is in Sydney to kick off the Australian leg of her Stripped world tour, found out last week that she was up for five Grammys - pitting her against the likes of Beyonce Knowles, diva Missy Elliott and rapper Eminem. (Audio: Being sexy and kangaroos)
"I hope for the best,'' Aguilera told journalists in Sydney today of her chances in the awards, which will be handed out in Los Angeles on February 8 next year.
"I feel so fortunate to be 22 right now and having three (Grammys) under my belt, which is amazing.''
Aguilera shied away from saying she was confident of winning an award, but said she would like to take out the gong for best pop female vocalist.
"Maybe best pop female vocal, I am kind of keeping my fingers crossed but you never know what is going on behind the scenes,'' she said.
American Idol's Kelly Clarkson is also nominated for the best female pop vocal performance for Miss Independent, a song co-written by Aguilera, who is competing in the category for Beautiful.
Kylie Minogue is nominated for a Grammy for best dance recording with her hit Come Into My World.
Aguilera would not be drawn into a debate over whether she or Minogue has the better shaped bottom, diplomatically saying: "good bums come in all shapes and sizes''.
Aguilera has come a long way since she started her career on the United States television show the Mickey Mouse Club.
She burst onto the pop music scene in 1999 with hit Genie in a Bottle and has since sold around 10 million albums.
Today, Aguilera said she was constantly changing her style.
"I can't be the same genie in a bottle that I was before so the genie is a little out of the bottle now,'' she said.
The singer has spent most of the year touring but said she tried to take a bit of home with her when she travelled.
''(I take) my favourite scented candles, down to your favourite foods and it is just trying to do everything you can,'' she said when asked how she keeps her life normal,'' she said.
``And writing, I definitely keep a journal so I am close to that because I am a very spiritual person - keeping in touch with those I love and keeping in touch with myself is of huge importance to me.''
Aguilera has been in Australia since Saturday, and has had an opportunity to get out and be a tourist.
``Maybe it is a little touristy of me, but I went to the zoo,'' she said.
``I love going to zoos and museums whenever I am out and about.
``I must say I do love kangaroos, they are so cute and I got to pat them.''
Aguilera begins her sellout tour with a show in Sydney tonight, before travelling around the country until December 17 to play Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. |
