super stars in town for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2003, but only twelve awards to give away on the night. Man of the Night was Justin Timberlake, who took home three awards for Best Album (‘Justified’), Best Male, and Best Pop, while Beyonce won two for Best R&B and Best Song for ‘Crazy In Love’.
Christina Aguilera, the sexiest awards show host ever, was surprised to find that she’s won Best Female. There were other surprises in store with Punjabi MC scooping Best Dance and the Best Video Award going to Sigar Ros for ‘Untitled 1’, directed by the fantastic Floria Sigismondi.
Five-time Best Hip Hop winner Eminem retained his crown and accepted his award via satellite, swearing through junk food all the way through it. Britain’s premier soft rock band Coldplay won Best Group, and also gave a recorded acceptance speech.
MTV’s prestigious Web Award was given to the always elusive Goldfrapp (www.goldfrapp.co.uk), and presented to them via the MTV website, by last year’s winner Moby. The very special MTV Free Your Mind Award went to Aung San Suu Kyi, who is still under house arrest in Burma, for attempting to lead her nation to freedom from military rule. (www.mtvburmaaction.com)
