Ecuadorean-American teen superstar Christina Aguilera tops the Billboard Latin 50 albums chart for the fourth straight week with Mi Reflejo (My Reflection), but now she can see Mexico pop singer Luis Miguel in her mirror.
Aguilera also tops the magazine's Hot Latin Tracks chart again with "Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tú)" (RealAudio excerpt), whose hit English-language twin is "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)." At #2 on the tracks survey is "Ven a Mi (Run to Me)," the debut single from boxer-turned-singer Oscar de la Hoya.
The artistic revelation on Mi Reflejo is Aguilera's note-riffing remake of "Contigo en la Distancia" (RealAudio excerpt), the 1952 vintage bolero that Miguel popularized on his 1991 album, Romance.
"It worked really well," producer Rudy Pérez said of Aguilera's version. "She brought all these inflections to it that no other Latin singer, including Luis Miguel, has ever done."
Miguel debuts right behind Aguilera at #2 with his new live album, Vivo. The veteran superstar, who turned 30 this year — he won his first Grammy at age 15 for a duet with Sheena Easton on "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres (I Like You Just the Way You Are)" — has packed the CD with romance.
In fact, alongside the initial single, "La Bikina," there are medleys titled "Romance," "Segundo Romance" and "Romances," after his three million-selling albums of boleros.
Also debuting this week are, at #7, Chanchullo (Dirty Business), the latest from 80-year-old Buena Vista Social Club pianist Rubén González, which includes the Arsenio Rodriguez composition "De una Manera Espantosa" (RealAudio excerpt), and heartthrob Chayanne's #10 Simplemente.
The rest of the Latin 50 top 10 is Los Tigres del Norte, De Paisano a Paisano, at #3; Son by Four, Son by Four, at #4; Alejandro Sanz, El Alma al Aire, at #5; the various-artists 2000 Latin Grammy Nominees, at #6; Conjunto Primavera, El Recado, at #8; and Shakira, MTV Unplugged, at #9. |
