Kelly's Born to be Riled | Type: Internet Article |

PINK. Christina Aguilera. And Kelly Osbourne. They're all just about as famous as each other, but for what reason? Kelly Osbourne: Talent or "celebrity by association"? The first two women have achieved their fame through years of hard work, which has paid off with a string of worlwide hit singles and albums.
But the latter, Miss Osbourne, has gained a place in current popular culture by being what should be known as a "celebrity by association".
Her poor cover of Madonna's pop classic, Papa Don't Preach, wouldn't have even reached your local record store bargain bin had she not been born the daughter of a heavy metal deity. Stardom has simply fallen into her lap thanks to reality TV.
Kelly has of late been slagging off both Christina and Pink at every available opportunity, quite possibly because they're, well, infinitely more talented than herself.
All those two have to do to settle an argument with Ozzy's daughter, if they could be bothered, is refer her to their latest chart successes (a department in which Kelly's sorely lacking) or simply request a demonstration as to whether she can even hold a note.
"She's just a talentless girl who uses the people she f**ks to get places," Kelly alleged when speaking about newly-crowned punk goddess Brody Dalle at British music bible NME's recent awards ceremony (she was there to collect the Godlike Genius award on behalf of her ill father, indisposed after taking a tumble off a quad bike.
Regardless of whether the latter accusation is actually true, it's certainly ironic to hear Kelly charge anyone with being talentless, considering she's a girl whose greatest claim to fame is being her father's daughter.
Then again, at least she's gone one better than her woefully beige brother Jack.
Paris Hilton has her own TV show because she's famous.
And how did she get to be famous? Aside from the notorious sex tape, she, just like her co-star in her show This Simple Life (Lionel Ritchie's daughter Nicole), belongs in the same category as Kelly Osborne.
What happened to the days when you actually had to achieve something to gain celebrity status?
How's this for a novel idea: how about we just begin giving record contracts, TV show parts and movie roles to the offspring of celebrities on the day they're born?
That way, there will never be any pressure to accomplish anything at all.
It'll simply be an acknowledgement of society's increasing propensity for putting people with no reason for being there on pedestals. |
