Last week's mention of the national anthem brings back memories of those who have a local connection performing it at sporting events in the area.
Two from Beaver County stand out: recording artists Christina Aguilera, formerly of Rochester, and B.E. Taylor of Aliquippa.
Aguilera sang the national anthem at age 10 for all of the Pittsburgh professional sports teams- Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
She was recognized at the time as the youngest artist in the nation to perform the anthem at any major sports event.
She's now regarded worldwide as a successful and genuinely talented superstar. She still has ties to Rochester and wanted to buy her grandmother, Darcy Fidler, a larger and more luxurious home, but grandma wanted to stay in Rochester so Aguilera bought her a home on West Madison Avenue. |
