 Renowned for out-there fashion and cheeky antics, the VMAs were the hottest event of the year, in every sense of the word.
It's not every day you see three of the world's biggest pop stars (two of whom are supposedly rivals) sing onstage together... and then slip on an open mouth kiss! The opening song for the 2003 MTV VMAs made pop culture history.
Picture this: A tarty bride, in trashy lace lingerie and a veil stands atop a massive wedding cake and sings Madonna's Like A Virgin. It's Britney Spears. Enter tarty bride No.2 - same get-up, bigger voice. It's Christina Aguilera. Then, from behind the giant cake we see Madonna herself appear, looking very tiger-trainer in tight black.
Three of the hottest chicks in pop music then gyrate and writhe around the stage as Madonna sings Hollywood. Mads then decides to pash both Brit and Xtina. (Sucking out their souls or passing on the pop queen crown? Who knows.) Cross to Justin Timberlake, looking quite un-amused. But then, being upstaged by an ex is never much fun. Missy Elliot then works her way onto the stage, completing the quartet modern music queens. t.A.T.u., eat your heart out. |
