Lyfe Jennings’ sophomore album, The Phoenix, opened at No. 1 this week on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, selling 136,000 copies.
Jennings also fared well on the Billboard 200, entering at No. 2 below Christina Aguilera’s Back To Basics double disc debut, which took the top spot with 346,000 copies sold.
First-week sales for Aguilera’s set are the most for a solo female artist since Mary J. Blige’s The Breakthrough sold 727,000 copies in December of 2005 and have given Xtina her first No. 1 album since her 1999 self-titled debut, according to Billboard.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, ATL’s singing sisters Cherish opened at No. 4 with "Unappreciated" and sold 91,000 copies, while Disney’s singing quartet The Cheetah Girls sold 87,000 copies of The Cheetah Girls 2 soundtrack and took the No. 5 spot.
Rapper Obie Trice’s Second Round’s On Me also debuted this week, selling 74,000 copies and landing at No. 8.
