| Christina Aguilera Gets Fans Back Into Music Stores - Aug 21, 2006 | Christina Aguilera has broken the music industry sales drought. Her number one debut with 'Back To Basics' has generated around three times the sales of a number one record has been worth in the last few months.
'Back To Basics' sold around 15,000 units last week in Australia and finished a long way in front of Pink's 'I'm Not Dead' which did around 5800 units.
The good Aguilera result is probably little consolation for a bleeding industry which recorded its all time worst ever number one seller only a week ago when the High School Musical soundtrack topped the honours with just over 5800 sa... |

| Aural Fixations - Aguilera mixes big band, jazz and soul on new album - Aug 20, 2006 | Ever since they were kids on the “The New Mickey Mouse Club” in the early ’90s, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears have been inextricably linked, their career arcs remarkably similar as they grew from preteens to teen pop stars to married twentysomethings.
Think of “The New Mickey Mouse Club” as sort of like the high school cheerleading squad for Spears and Aguilera (Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez of NSYNC were also on the show as youngsters — they’d be the football players in our little high school). In this school, rivalries abound, feuds are commonplace and competition is intense.

| Christina Aguilera: Back To Basics - Aug 19, 2006 | For her third album, Christina Aguilera does away with the crotchless leathers and multicoloured hair extensions and goes for a grown-up look - one that's supposed to remind us of Jean Harlow, but looks more like Traci Lords. Even though this double disc is her way "to get inside the minds of every legend I've ever wanted to stand beside", like everything she's done it's about as subtle as the sucking-lollipop image that accompanies Still Dirrty. Still, it's fun if you don't try to work out which era she's infatuated with, and her voice is as powerful and impressive as ever. Form... |

"Hips Don't Lie" (Epic) by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean took its total of weeks at the singles chart summit to five, the last four of which have been consecutive.
The big climbers on the singles chart, after their physical release added to initial download sales, were "Ridin'" (Universal) by Chamillionaire featuring Krayzie Bone, up 19-2, and "Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)" (Gusto) by David Guetta vs. The E... |
