A brief updated take on “Genie in a Bottle” opened Aguilera’s set, which soon gave way to her new single, “Keeps Getting Better.”
The song is clearly inspired by Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” but Aguilera sounds just fine with some amped-up guitars behind her and the song’s electronic zips and snappy beat provide the hook.
A shame it was obvious she was lip-syncing, as the segment was more about her performance than her voice.

| Christina Aguilera to perform at VMAs, possibly feud with Britney - Sep 08, 2008 | Christina Aguilera has been confirmed as a performer for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. This will be her first major performance since giving birth to baby Max Liron, according to OK! Magazine:
"I'm very excited," said Christina about the news, which was announced at a press conference at Paramount Studios in L.A. Refering to her 8-month-old son Max Liron, Xtina said, "This will be his first time watching me perform on television, but only for a little while because he's not really allowed to watch television yet. I'll make an exception for the VMAs."

The song was great but it would have been cooler if she actually sang some parts of the song. Aguilera's "Keeps Getting Better" choreography was supposed to make her look like a twisted supergirl dancing with some nerdy Clark Kents, but it looked more like a feminist twist on "Deal or No Deal."
Either way, it was a moment that came and went. However empowered Xtina wants to be, she was upstaged by Sparks, who showed a generation of teenage girls that sisters really can do it for themselves.
