 You may have seen commercials on television for Burlesque. One ad played, for example, when Cher appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards and gave the Moonman trophy to Lady Gaga for Best Video of the Year. Maybe, though, you are not quite sure what it is. Is it a stage show? TV special? Concert tour, you may ask? In fact, Burlesque is a musical film due out this Thanksgiving starring Cher, Christina Aquilera, and Kristen Bell.
The movie is directed by Steve Antin from a script written by Mr. Antin, Diablo Cody, and Susannah Grant. Other cast members in the film include: Eric Dane, Julianne Hough, Alan Cumming, Peter Gallagher, and Stanley Tucci.
The story revolves around star-wanna-be, Ali (played by Ms. Aguilera) who arrives in Los Angeles and becomes fascinated with an ailing but legendary club, The Burlesque Lounge, run by Tess (played by Cher). Though she wants to perform there, Ali is given a job as a cocktail waitress. She befriends co-workers at the lounge and finally makes her way to the stage. Her dynamic voice puts the lounge back in business, and makes Ali a star. When she receives an enticing offer as a result of her success, she must decide where her loyalties lie.
Cher and Christina Aguilera will both appear on the movie's soundtrack as well.
Burlesque is scheduled for release on November 24, 2010. |
